GET BEHIND THE WHEEL

Driving off-road in a 4WD is a very different experience to driving your everyday sedan or hatch. We’ll help you put the right techniques into practice with hands-on training and exercises in your own vehicle.

As well as developing safer off-road driving skills, you will also learn more about your vehicle, essential maintenance and safety features for your next big adventure.

Participants are required to have a minimum P1 Provisional (Red P) driver’s license. Passengers/spectators are welcome, and can learn how to be a guide for their driver.


TECHNIQUES COVERED

  • Plan your travel route
  • How to negotiate a variety of terrains, including sand
  • Water crossings
  • Correct range and gear selection
  • Understanding Hill Descent Control and off-road technologies
  • Emergency braking on unsealed/gravel roads
  • Vehicle recovery
  • Environmental awareness


COST

$315, cancellations must be advised at least 7 days prior to the course date so that a transfer to an alternative date can be arranged, cancellations after this date will result in a forfeit of all fees paid. Transfers must be completed within 6 months of the original course date. Refunds for cancellation or non-attendance are not available.


TIMINGS

Full day course: 8:30am – 4:00pm.


WHAT TO WEAR

Please wear casual, comfortable clothing with regards to weather conditions – it can get very hot, and equally very cold at Sydney Motorsport Park.
Ensure that you wear comfortable flat, closed in shoes. Please note that high heels, thongs or sandals are not permitted.


VEHICLE REQUIREMENTS

Please ensure that your vehicle is roadworthy and has:

  • The correct oil and water levels
  • A full tank of fuel
  • Tyre pressures at recommended manufacturer levels, please refer to your vehicle handbook for optimum levels
  • Remove any loose items from your vehicle
  • Vehicles must be 4WD capable. AWD and Soft Off-Roaders are not suitable. Please call us on 1300 183 700 if in doubt. 


FOOD & BEVERAGES

Tea, coffee and water are supplied. There is a café onsite, or you are welcome to bring your own food and drinks. Please note that the café is not open every day of the year, but there are shops close by if required. No alcohol should be consumed for at least 12 hours prior to the course.


WEATHER

All Driver Training courses go ahead whatever the weather conditions. In the unlikely event that we need to cancel or postpone a course we will contact you as soon as possible.

DIRECTIONS

Enter Sydney Motorsport Park via Gate A on Ferrers Road, once on Ferrers Road, SMSP is on the left-hand side, with yellow and black signage. Once you are within Sydney Motorsport Park, please proceed through the tunnel and park on the "dummy grid" which is located on the left in front of the blue ARDC building. Sign-on and registration will be in Suite 4 on the first level of the pit building.

Sydney Motorsport Park is located 40km west of Sydney’s CBD on Brabham Drive/Ferrers Road at Eastern Creek.
